16/01/25 Army cadets

diving -> diary

Thursday 8pm 16/1/25 Alsager Sub Aqua Club (ASAC) hosted a detachment of Army Cadets from North Staffs.
With the cadets planning a diving expedition to Malta they hoped to gain the elementary skills of diving during the pool session at Alsager leisure centre.
During their time in Malta the cadets would be undertaking a 3day training course followed by 2 days of open water diving in the St Pauls Bay area.
2 groups of 10 cadets were escorted by trained ASAC members. Using ASAC and members’ private equipment a mixed group of cadets ranging in ages from 14 to 18 were accommodated.
After kitting up and an introduction to the underwater breathing apparatus, submersion was tried by the cadets. Using their Buoyancy Control Device (BCD) buoyancy control was demonstrated followed by an underwater swim around the pool where mask clearing and the use of the alternative breathing source was attempted by the more confident cadets.
All cadets performed exceptionally well with some showing a natural ability in the underwater environment. Feedback confirmed they enjoyed the experience and are looking forward with increased confidence to the further training during their expedition to Malta.

We had the pleasure of receiving photos from their time in Malta showing how well they did.
